Really wants to share after watching the program on PBS

According to the PBS presentation “Growing up Online”, many children adapt into the social-networking life. The teenagers stated that they can find their real identity through the world and they can make many friends online more than in reality. However, the parents were worry about all things their children do on the internet. At the same time, the relationships and communications between parents and their children are getting worse. From all the examples showed in the “Growing up Online” videos, we are not only seeing the confidence that the children build from the internet but also the troubles they get from the internet. At the end, Parry Aftab who’s the Executive Directer of WiredSafety.com suggested children to be kind to others, “Stop, Block, and Tell” to the people who threaten them and to use technology responsibly. And Danah Boyd from the Harvard Berkman Center for Internet & Society suggested parents not only restrict their children from going online but also need to teach themselves and their children to live a good quality life.

I learned that children need to be wise on what they are doing. Parents will not be able to protect them from danger if they built a wall between their parents and themselves. It is human nature that parents wish to protect their children from getting hurt but they do not know how to. I just want to share to all of you that getting online is always fun but need to be careful because everything you put online will be exposed to everyone. It is easy to share whatever you want to share but it is hard to remove you have put online. Be responsible and have fun guys :)

"Another World"

In this the world, there are many people who are getting tired and unhappy with their life. They are trying to find a way to escape from their burdens that are caused by themselves or from the society. Social-networking has become much more important to many people’s life, from the youngest to the oldest. Many people found a new world by going to the internet. There is a internet game called “Second Life” had be very popular and affected many people’s life. For example, a British organization called ARCI has used this game to help abused children in building up their connection with the others and many social skills. According to the PBS’ program “GROWING UP ONLINE”, teenagers stated that they have found their identity and the friends they make online even much more than what they have in their physical life. The “Second Life” game not only had helped people who are healthy but also people who have difficulties. Mahay, who works at an adult day-care center in Mattapan, Massachusetts, used the “Second Life” to help people who had difficulty in communicate with the others. By using the “Second Life”, now the disable people can express themselves by typing and do what they want without people staring at them. There are so many social-networking web site such as facebook, myspaces and blogs for people to easily get to know each and connect to the others. The social-networking is also powerful in getting people’s attention. Our new president Barack Obama opened his gate to the president by using the social-networking site “MyBo”. Through his social-networking site, neighbors get closer and people from young to old join together vote Obama as a “hope, change” to their life. At the end, Obama used his “technologies” advanced without cost himself and won the elections. As one can see, the network had many impacts on either personal or social benefits. As the time goes on, we will open through another world to make our life more beautiful.
